Buffalo City unveils newest initiative to boost local shopping

The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce has unveiled its new Gift Card to make it easy for residents and visitors to spend locally.

JAMESTOWN, ND. The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce has unveiled its new Gift Card to make it easy for residents and visitors to spend locally.

The new Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card can be spent with multiple participating Chamber businesses in the city, including stores, restaurants, attractions, hotels and services, and replaces the previous Chamber Bucks paper check system.

Known as Buffalo City thanks to its 26-foot buffalo statue, created in 1959 to attract visitors to the North Dakota city, hopes are high that the new Gift Card will also encourage locals and tourists alike to experience Jamestown.

“Jamestown is a small community of around 16,000 people known for its history, recreation, and charm. You can be shopping in our independent stores in the morning and kayaking out on the lake in the afternoon. Our new Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card is a way for people to experience Jamestown’s big town amenities and small town feel, all with a single Gift Card,” said Emily Bivens, Executive Director at Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce.

Emily adds: “Our paper Chamber Bucks were popular as gifts and rewards but our new Gift Card is a modern Gift Card with all the advantages that brings. It’s easy for participating merchants to accept the card, and it’s easy for recipients to spend the card across Jamestown, with the balance on the card instantly updated. The Chamber Gift Card will be ideal for local employers to use as rewards, knowing their employees have outstanding local choice to spend their cards, from health care services to recreation, shopping to sports, and access to national retailers and independent businesses.”

A range of independent businesses are ready to accept the new Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card. Tricia Seckerson, owner of Dairy Queen, Quiznos, and SuperWash in Jamestown said: “Dairy Queen and Quiznos provide quick and convenient food options for residents and visitors, while SuperWash offers a simple and reliable place to keep vehicles clean year-round. We’re accepting the new Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card because the new card will be easy for both our staff and our customers. The old check system sometimes caused confusion, but the card is simple and quick to use. It makes the process smoother for everyone at the counter. The Gift Card will help keep more spending local. It will also be ideal for people to buy as gifts or give to employees.”

Walmart is one of the national retailers accepting the new Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card. Tom Curtis, store manager of Walmart store #1649 in Jamestown said: “The new Gift Card is a great way to showcase Jamestown businesses through one convenient option. It encourages residents and visitors alike to shop locally, keeping more dollars circulating within the community. Programs like this help strengthen local partnerships, promote tourism, and make it easy for people to support businesses across Jamestown with a single card. We’re proud to be part of an initiative that invests directly back into our local economy.”

Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) serves patients from Jamestown and the surrounding region, and is welcoming the new Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card. Cindy Tag Nygord from JRMC said: “As a local hospital, JRMC works to support the health of the community while also supporting local businesses and organizations. In the past, JRMC has used Chamber Bucks as a way to give back to the community. Because many patients and families travel from around the region to Jamestown, it makes sense to support businesses here. The new Gift Card can go right into a wallet or purse, while checks are easy to forget. This change should help more people use the program and spend those dollars at local businesses.”

The Jamestown Gift Card is available to buy online and in person from the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce office at 120 2nd Street SE.

The Jamestown Area Chamber Gift Card is issued by Pathward®, N.A., Member FDIC. Funds do not expire, are non-reloadable, and have no cash access. For Cardholder Agreement or Customer Service: www.getmybalance.com or 1-833-558-1088.
