“I studied business and marketing at Ulster University for three years. It was a really diverse course, covering areas like accounting, economics and marketing. Alongside the theory, there was also an opportunity to work alongside organisations on projects, giving a unique insight into the industry. I really enjoyed the practical side of things and the chance to get that insight into real-life business challenges and opportunities.

“Post university, I worked in a variety of local businesses including a pub and a salon while deciding on my next steps. As a Carndonagh local, I’d worked with the Miconex Ireland team at its Ireland head office in the town over the busy Christmas period, fulfilling corporate and consumer orders. I really enjoyed it and Davin Doherty offered me a full time role as Customer Service Executive after I’d finished university.

“Working with Shea and Davin is brilliant and my role is varied. Alongside fulfilling orders, I look after customers across all stages of their purchasing experience, from activating their e-card to where to spend queries, people like to be able to pick up the phone, ask a question and get help there and then. Before starting work with Miconex, I’d heard about the Carndonagh Gift Card and also the Love Sligo Gift Card and the ShopLK Gift Card. As part of the team, I got to learn about the wider Town & City Gift Cards Ireland network which is growing all the time.

“I think the Town & City Gift Card concept is such a good idea because when the card is spent, it goes back into the community. It’s also a more thoughtful gift than cash or a generic Gift Card. Our towns wouldn’t be the same without our local businesses because you wouldn’t be able to pop in to get a pair of earrings, to go shopping which I love to do, or to go for a meal with your friends. It’s vital that we do all we can to support local.”
