Joining Miconex in November 2025 as Finance Assistant is Poulami Malik Higgins. With a degree in accounting and finance, and a Master's degree in finance and banking, Poulami brings a wealth of knowledge to Miconex, strengthening the finance department as Miconex continues its scale up journey. Poulami told us more about her childhood role model, moving to Dundee, and her hobbies.

“I was born in a small village in Calcutta, and brought up in Mumbai, one of the busiest cities in the world. In Mumbai, my bachelor’s degree was in accounting and finance, I also started my chartered accountancy training before moving to London for an internship as an accounts assistant with Aston Pearl Accountants. Then, it was another move, this time to Dundee to complete a Master's degree in finance and banking at the University of Dundee.

“My role model growing up was my grandfather and I think that’s where my passion for finance came from. He was resident principal of a school and also taught maths and science. I remember him sitting me down and asking for advice on what to do with an amount of money, and whether he should deposit it at the bank or do something else. I didn’t realise it at the time, but he was teaching me about managing money, and as a child I was so proud that I was being consulted on such important topics. It really encouraged me to logically consider the various options and outcomes. I was just the happiest kid going off to the bank to deposit the money. My parents and friends were also huge supporters, pushing me forwards to study and gain qualifications, and I’ve gained so much as a result.

“Dundee is my second home now. I’ve been made to feel so welcome. My husband Finlay is my rock and. He helped me a huge amount in the early days when I was missing my family and adjusting to the Dundee climate after living most of my life in the heat of Mumbai. You can usually find me at home wrapped up in blankets, trying to keep warm! I enjoy the peace of Dundee after the busyness of Mumbai, and how kind everyone is. Out of work, I love to dance, and anyone who knows me will tell you, I love to chat too!

“While living in Dundee, I became aware of the Dundee Gift Card that can be spent with all types of sizes of local businesses in Dundee. When the role came up with Miconex, I did some research and came to understand that the Dundee Gift Card is part of the wider Scotland Loves Local Gift Card concept, and so simple and straightforward in how it works. My skill-set matched those on the job description and I was very happy to be successful in the role with Miconex.

“At Miconex, I’m working on lots of projects, including streamlining tasks, improving efficiency, reporting and more. Miconex’s growth over the past few years has been extraordinary, and I’m excited to be part of its continued development as a company.”
