Meet Tony Fasson, Non-Executive Director for Miconex

Tony Fasson is a non-executive director at Miconex. With a business and finance career spanning over 45 years, Tony specialises in building businesses from the ground up, developing profitability and scalability, and was part of the team which turned Toptable into Europe’s largest online restaurant booking service.

“Toptable was one of the most interesting businesses I’ve worked with. It was an early dot-com business that was correctly monetised from the outset with the main revenue stream being generated via the restaurateur. The success was built around selecting the best quality restaurants from all cuisines, as fully authenticated diner reviews proved to be the key driver to building up trust, which in turn produced exceptional growth. A good measure of this was that the company would fill Murrayfield to capacity with diners each week. All of the big corporates wanted to be visible on the Toptable website too, which added to the revenue stream. The other aspect was the incentivised rewards. Often, it was assistants making bookings on behalf of their organisations, and they could accumulate points for self-use to dine free.

“The reason I bought into Miconex was the product, of course, it’s a great business but I also bought into Colin Munro, Miconex’s MD. Leadership is vital in a company and I believed in his vision for what Miconex could become. Miconex has grown significantly over the past few years, expanding internationally, capitalising on the corporate market and exploring the many and varied use cases for local gift cards, from disbursement to white label. I don’t doubt there will be many more interesting use cases to come as well as continued growth and development for Miconex as a company. The future for Miconex is bright.”
