Available in either physical or digital format, the Downtown Boulder Gift Card can be redeemed in over 120 participating downtown businesses, including stores, restaurants and service businesses throughout the district.
The digital Downtown Boulder Gift Card can be sent to the recipient instantly, and added to digital wallets using a Love Local app, enabling the recipient to ‘tap to pay’ with downtown businesses who are part of the Gift Card program. Recipients can also use the Love Local app to check the balance on their Gift Card, and view their purchase history.
Backed by The Downtown Boulder Partnership (DBP), the newly designed physical burgundy Downtown Boulder Gift Card works the same as previous versions, and is redeemed at the point of sale of participating businesses with the balance on the card automatically updated. Recipients with a physical Downtown Boulder Gift Card can check their balance using a 24/7 online balance checker. Older green and blue versions of the cards remain in circulation and will continue to be accepted.
Cards are available to purchase online at DowntownBoulderGiftCard.com or in person at the Downtown Boulder Partnership (DBP) office (1320 Pearl St., Suite 232) Monday - Friday or at the Visitor Information Center on the Pearl Street Mall (1301 Pearl St.) where hours vary seasonally.
“For nearly two decades, the Downtown Boulder Gift Card has been a unique gift that offers recipients the chance to shop, dine and explore the downtown district,” said Terri Takata-Smith, VP of Marketing and Communications. “Our Gift Card is a popular ‘thank you’ gift for teachers and coaches at the end of the school year and sports seasons. The Gift Card is also a great way to recognize and incentivize employees and teams. With digital wallet usage on the rise, a digital version of the card is something we are excited to offer and a feature that repeat purchasers have asked for over the past few years in particular. People in Boulder care deeply about the local community. The more opportunities we have to keep money circulating in Boulder, the stronger our community is moving forward.”
Between 2019 - April 2025 alone, a significant number of Downtown Boulder Gift Cards have been redeemed throughout the downtown district. The program provides a significant source of revenue for participating businesses year after year.
Locally owned, family-run shoe store Pedestrian Shops is one of the businesses which has accepted the Downtown Boulder Gift Card since its launch nearly 20 years ago. “The Downtown Boulder Gift Card is such a wonderful program — it encourages people to shop and dine in beautiful downtown Boulder, making it an ideal gift for locals and visitors alike,” said Zoe Polk, Pedestrian Shops co-owner. “Accepting the card was a no-brainer for us! We see customers year-round who come in to redeem their Gift Card, and often they’re new customers discovering our store for the first time. The program is also incredibly easy to set up and integrates seamlessly with our credit card system, making it simple for both businesses and customers to participate. Beyond the economic benefits, it fosters a sense of community pride and connection—something we value deeply at Pedestrian Shops.”
Another locally-owned and operated business accepting the card is Lindsay’s Boulder Deli & Häagen-Dazs. “We are a local family business who serve fresh sandwiches, soups, and salads, Häagen-Dazs ice cream, ice cream cakes, cold drinks, and more,” says owner, Lindsay Shaw. ” We love the Downtown Boulder Gift Card because it brings in both locals and tourists. Being part of the Downtown Boulder Gift Card program, we welcome in new faces a few times a month who are so excited to try new restaurants and shops in the community. With multiple vendors, the Gift Card recipients are introduced to so many new places.”
“We love being part of the Downtown Boulder Gift Card program as it keeps our community dollars in our community,” said Jonathan Banis, owner of Japango, a Japanese and sushi restaurant on the Pearl Street Mall. “The more ways that we can find to keep things local, shop, dine and everything else makes us stronger and more connected.”
National brands also participate in the Gift Card program, including Patagonia: “We’ve been in Boulder on Pearl Street since 2008, providing our sport-minded community with the clothing and gear it takes to get the most from being outside,” noted Assistant Store Manager Hayden Allan. “The Downtown Boulder Gift Card is a great way to support the businesses that make downtown so special - from local boutiques to tried-and-true outdoor brands. Patagonia is happy to join our neighbors in helping to cultivate a safe and healthy local community. While the Downtown Boulder Gift Card can be used at a wide variety of local businesses on countless different items, each card always provides a one-of-a-kind experience of Boulder's unique charm. Here at Patagonia, we're particularly happy to see a paperless payment option available, in line with our mission statement: We're in business to save our home planet.”
