“Music has been part of my life from a young age. I started playing my first instrument at 7, going on to do Advanced Highers in subjects including music. Then, I went to Edinburgh College to study classical music, where I played brass and percussion instruments and composed. It was compulsory to be in a choir but I found the performance side tricky. I took the course to HND level and realised that my ideal music job would be writing about music, and as those jobs are quite hard to come by, I thought about other options where I’d have an opportunity to make a difference.

“After leaving Edinburgh College, I embarked on an environmental science degree with the Open University. The course was fascinating, covering topics such as ecology, ecosystems and environmental management. With the Open University, you structure your degree yourself and really have to take charge of your learning progress. Then, the pandemic hit, but this had a lesser impact on me than other students because my course was already set up to be entirely online anyway.

“It took me 4 years to complete my degree, and during the last two years, I worked part time with Tesco/Capita in customer service. With around 40 calls a day, my focus was quickly and efficiently helping the customer to solve their query. The role gave me lots of confidence in speaking to people over the phone.

“I started with Miconex in October 2025 on a temporary contract after a recruiter reached out to me. Miconex’s products power the circular economy and provide tangible support for local businesses, and this really appealed to me. I love that idea that in buying a local Town & City Gift Card or Downtown Gift Card, you’re playing an active role in keeping businesses open, including small independents.

“My role at Miconex started off in fulfilment during the busy Christmas period, packing Gift Card orders for consumers and corporate organisations. I really enjoyed being a part of the Miconex team, and was offered a permanent role as Growth & Administration Assistant. My role continues to include fulfilment, but now also involves contacting organisations around a month after they’ve received their order to see how they got on. It’s great because I go through the full cycle of an order. The feedback that we get from organisations is strong, they like the fact that they are supporting local businesses while giving their people ultimate local choice.”
