In April 2022, Miconex welcomed our new Office Manager Sarah Parsons. We talked to Sarah about her knack for spotting famous faces, working for the Government and relocating to Scotland.
“I studied classics and history at university, and travelled a lot, spending 8 months in the US working at a luxury golf and tennis resort, then travelling across Europe. My cousin lives in Sydney and it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, especially the World Heritage Blue Mountains. I adore Rome too. We got married there in a cold February during a snowstorm, and had been to see the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel when the new Pope drove past in his Ford Focus! We also spotted Bill and Hillary Clinton on another of our travels.
“As well as travel, I enjoy walking and have ridden since I was 6 years old. I sold my horse last year but before that I took part in dressage and cross country events. I’m just getting back into running, and completed the BrightonMarathon in under 4 hours. I love to read too.
“I’ve spent most of my life working in London, commuting in each day. After university, I worked for an import company and a security firm. Then, I became a service manager at Renault for 12 years working at different locations in and around London. I also worked for the Government, running an Immigration Central Centre for 12 years.
“My role at the Immigration Central Centre was a 24/7, 365 days a year job in a centre with 48 staff. It was complex, dealing with the movement of people and involved being out on the road as well as managing, supporting and motivating staff in the Centre. I was constantly attached to my phone, at night, Christmas day; there was no quiet time.
“It’s coming up to 1 year since we made the move from Bedfordshire to Aberfeldy in Perthshire. It was always the plan that we would retire in Scotland, but when the Bedfordshire based motorhome firm I was working for opened in Edinburgh, we took the chance to move up. Day to day, I managed logistics, took over fleet management, looked after health and safety and oversaw special projects as well as running the service department.
“The commute between Aberfeldy and Edinburgh was around 3 hours a day, time I wanted to put to better use. And with the likelihood of commuting to London being required, it was time for a change. At Miconex, I’ll have the best of both worlds, the excitement of being involved in a growing, developing company. And, as Perth is only 30 minutes from my home, I will also have the luxury of an extra 2 hours per day, which could be spent working or walking the dogs. After all those years of commuting, quality of life is so much more important to me now.
“We’ve all been through the mill during the pandemic and local areas have suffered so much. Town and city centres need help and to have products like Town & City Gift Cards and Mi Rewards is brilliant, as they help communities to grow and be successful. My main skills are organisation, getting things done and making sure processes are in place to keep people safe and happy. I’m looking forward to new projects, new challenges, and being a part of the Miconex expansion journey.”
