Meet the team member: Sandra Kay

In March 2026, Miconex welcomed Sandra Kay to the team, leading on business development in Canada. With a career that has centred around the ways people connect with places, spanning economic development, tourism and marketing, coupled with experience across BIAs, local businesses and communities, Sandra brings a wealth of experience around the challenges faced by downtown and local businesses to the business development role.

“When I look back, my career has always been centred around experiences and the ways people connect with places. I started out at Ticketmaster, working closely with sports and entertainment organizations to help bring experiences to life and connect them with audiences. Ticketmaster’s technology is the backbone that helps deliver those experiences at scale, but what always stood out to me was the experience itself. A big part of my role was helping people discover events they might not have otherwise considered and supporting partners in creating something people genuinely wanted to be part of. That shaped how I think about engagement and what motivates people to explore and participate.

“My work then expanded into municipal marketing, economic development, tourism, and downtown BIAs. I found myself applying those same ideas in a different way, helping people discover main streets, local businesses, and community experiences. That is where things really clicked for me. I enjoyed being closer to the community, working directly with businesses, and building programs that encouraged people to spend time locally.

“I have always been drawn to exploring, whether that is travelling somewhere new or discovering a smaller town closer to home. Some of the most memorable experiences come from local places, through food, shops, and the people behind them. That has shaped the way I approach my work, with a focus on helping others discover what makes a place unique.

“When I was introduced to Miconex, it felt like a natural fit. I was drawn to the way it supports both discovery and local economies. It encourages people to explore and try new places, while also supporting the businesses that make those experiences possible. I also appreciate how it gives communities a practical way to support local spending and connect people more closely to where they live and visit.

“Having been an entrepreneur myself, I understand the challenges that small businesses face and how much even small increases in visibility or foot traffic can matter. That is a big part of why this work is important to me.

“I am especially excited about the opportunity to help grow this work across Canada, supporting communities of all sizes and helping create stronger connections between residents, visitors, and local businesses.

“Outside of work, I love spending time with my two sons, walking my dogs, and exploring with a camera in hand. I am a bit of a shutterbug, so I am often noticing the small details, the character, and the moments that make a place feel special. Whether I am travelling somewhere new or discovering something closer to home, that curiosity is a big part of who I am and why this work feels so meaningful.”
